Misery Loves Company

Sarah Sparks This album is infectious on many levels. Having seen a wonderful gig at the Union Hotel Beunswick where I bought the CD, I couldn't wait to get it home, so bandcamp came to the rescue. I listened to nothing else for a week, but, not wanting to self-engineer OCD, I forced myself to listen to other music.

I come back pretty regularly to this for a number of reasons. Jimmy's lyrics are a great blend of yearning, introspection, and witful observations, interspersed with rollicking good fun. This is brilliantly complemented by the other Miserable Little Bastards who provide a warm and full sound that delights the ears and surges the heart. The harmonies are superb too.

The Sun & The Moon is my favourite track because of its evocative use of nature, geography and astronomy to map the relationship between two lovers, gentle instrumentation and surging harmonies. If there's a song I'll file alongside The Triffids' ' Wide Open Road', it's this.

Thanks a big bunch! Looking forward to the next release. Favorite track: The Sun & The Moon.

about

The Miserable Little Bastards VIC, Australia

DON'T LET THE BASTARDS GET YOU DOWN! The MLB's are an old-school throwback for the modern day fallout, performing depression- era showtunes for the new recession. Formed in 2008 as a sidekick to drunken pirate convict maniacs Clinkerfield, they released their debut album "Misery Loves Company" in 2011. They're currently on hiatus, as Clinkerfield return to stages after 6 years in absentia. ... more
